Q)What if I can't swim?
A) No better time to learn!
All, jokes aside, this is a very common question. Swimming skills are not required for any of our tours or lessons.
Here's why: We provide lifejackets & wetsuits, which together have a combined bouyancy of 2x lifejackets. We're also qualified RLSS Beach Lifeguards & keep our certifications & skills up to date.
Taking a lesson or tour in a controlled environment is a great way to begin to redefine you're relationship with the water, we've seen the postive effect of this many times over the years. Your safety is our number one concern on all tours, lessons and rentals.
Q) How are lessons/tours structured & How are they different?
A) Lessons and tours are quite similar. The main difference is that on a lesson the emphasis is on learning paddle tecnique, getting up to your feet (On the Sup's) and learning the basics of manuevering your Sup/Kayak, if your lesson is on the beach in Rossnowlagh, we'll incorporate riding waves on your sup into the lesson. Lessons take place in many of the same locations as tours.
We begin each activity by giving out wetsuits & lifejackets; Once everyone is changed we'll move on to an introduction to the equiptment.
Then its in the water for approximately 90 minutes of instruction & touring, followed by tea/coffe & biscuits. Our instructor to student ratio is 1:8
Q) What ages are suitable for these activite?
A) Ages from 6 up to 80 years old, although we've older & younger, both Stand up Paddling & Kakaking are easy on the body and good for the development of balance at any age. Small children can ride in a third, middle-seat on the kayaks; On the Sup's small children generally share a board between two of them or ride on the front of an adults board.
Q) Will I be cold?
A) Absolutely not! We use winter wetsuits (5mm) for all of our activities, although from June to August its optional to use the wetsuits.
An advantage of both Suping & kayaking is that you are up, out of the water, which means its a considerably warmer activity than surfing.
